We've said it before and we'll say it again - if you have access to an Academic EHR, it can be used every day, not just in one lesson. It's a way to set up an entire scenario in just a few minutes... and that includes math!
For example, you can create a patient in your system (or use one of our templates if you have EHR Tutor) and make sure the patient's weight is recording in pounds. For the sake of example, let's say this patient is a pediatric patient.
Place an order on the patient for Lasix at 2 mg/kg of body weight.
When students find the order for Lasix at 2mg/kg, they will have to convert the patient's weight into kg before determining the dosage.
If you're doing this as a group activity, you can have the patient chart open on your projector or Smartboard and pose the question to your students as a class. If each student has access to a computer or tablet, have the students discover the order and record the math they had to complete in the comment field when recording the medication in the MAR.
